Copper prices moved up by 0.53 per cent to Rs 396.50 per kg at the futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions in tandem with a firm global trend.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper contract for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 2.10 or 0.53 per cent to Rs 396.50 per kg in a business turnover of 193 lots.
Also, far-month August contract was trading higher by Rs 1.85 or 0.46 per cent at Rs 401.20 per kg in just one lot.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to a firm global trend.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months added 0.5 per cent to $6,136 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange as the outlook for demand improved after better-than-expected US new home sales and gains in Chinese industrial profits.
