Strong upcountry demand pushed the spot pepper prices further. Traders said 27 tonnes of pepper arrived today and of this around 10 tonnes were traded earlier but delivered now. While the remaining came from various regions and traded at prices between ₹685 and ₹705 a kg, depending upon the area and the quality of the material.
Pure new pepper was sold at ₹695. On the IPSTA platform, all the active contracts were down by ₹1,000 a quintal. Spot prices went up further by ₹500 to ₹68,500 (ungarbled) and ₹71,500 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices moved up to $11,700 a tonne c&f for Europe while January shipment was at $10,700.
