Following heavy arrival and poor demand, turmeric sales decreased on Wednesday.
“We expected decrease in price due to poor upcountry demand, but prices were stable. On Wednesday, 9,000 bags arrived for sale. Only average quality of turmeric arrived for sale and traders procured 45 per cent,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,009-8,369 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,702-7,669.
Salem turmeric: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,890-9,079; the root turmeric ₹5,869-8,011. Of the total arrival of 3,253 bags, 1,190 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,899-8,699; the root variety ₹7,004-8,017. Of the 1,585 bags on sale, 1,309 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,999-8,399; the root variety ₹6,840-7,699. Of the 1,765 bags on sale, 1,568 were sold. Our Correspondent
