Demand for the hybrid turmeric increased on Friday on fresh demand from North India.
“Local traders received fresh demand from North India for the hybrid varieties. Of the 3,100 bags that arrived, 610 were of the hybrid variety.Because of medium quality produce, prices were almost flat,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,169-6,489 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,110-5,819.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹5,719-7,009 and the root variety ₹5,099-6,019. Of the 960 bags on sale, 390 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,469-6,504 and the root variety ₹5,189-6,119. Of the 866 bags offered, 848 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,600-6,669 and the root variety ₹5,469-6,102. All the 583 bags found takers.
