Turmeric prices for hybrid and local varieties fell on Wednesday despite arrivals declining.

“Arrival dropped to 1,500 bags due to rains. Twenty per cent of the stock that arrived was of good quality and the rest medium quality. While the price of hybrid finger turmeric fell by ₹300 a quintal, price of local finger variety in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society rose by ₹250 due to quality,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,129-6,317 a quintal, the root variety at ₹3,709-5,577.

Salem Hybrid: The finger variety fetched ₹5,414-6,666, root variety ₹4,619-5,717. Of the 400 bags that arrived, 98 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger variety fetched ₹5,180-6,320, the root variety ₹5,139-5,920. Of the 203 bags placed for sale, 142 were picked up.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,489-6,280, the root variety at ₹4,950-5,869. All the 71 bags on offer were traded.
