Hybrid turmeric prices in Erode markets touched ₹9,600 a quintal for the first time during this year on the back of new orders from upcountry traders.
“The price of hybrid and local turmeric were up due to speculative buying. Some exporters have received fresh upcountry demandprocured more than 5,000 bags on Wednesday,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,998-8,009 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,889-7,466.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,290-9,609 and the root variety ₹6,000-7,591. Of the 5,005 bags that arrived, 2,300 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,863-8,533; the root variety ₹6,583-7,613. Of the 1,084 bags on offer, 1,053 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,868-8,723; the root variety ₹6,633-7,809. All the 1,351 bags found takers.
