Spot prices of hybrid turmeric increased on increased demand from other States on Thursday. Arrival of fine quality also aided the rise.
“After a long time, the price of the hybrid finger increased by ₹1,300 a quintal, due to arrival of fine quality turmeric. Traders received good number of orders from North India and bought all the 400 and odd bags of hybrid finger turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Of the 5,900 bags that arrived, 4,070 bags were sold. Almost all the quality turmeric arrived for sale were bought by traders. The hybrid root turmeric was flat at ₹7,191 a quintal. The other varieties were also up ₹100-200 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety turmeric was sold at ₹4,818-7,291; the root variety ₹4,396-6,966 a quintal.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety turmeric quoted ₹6,514-9,669 and the root variety ₹6,306-7,191. Of the 1,577 bags that arrived, 1,105 were sold.
At the Regulated Market committee, the finger variety was sold at ₹6,399-7,210; the root variety ₹6,199-7,089. All the 924 bags were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger variety fetched ₹6,300-7,197; the root variety ₹6,299-7,098. Of the 1,110 bags put up for sale 1,037 were sold.
