Supply of Sri Lankan pepper at ₹400 a kg has pushed the spot pepper prices further down on Friday.

Pepper from the plains was being traded at ₹410, while high range pepper sellers were asking for ₹420. Buyers were at ₹415 a kg, trade sources told BusinessLine.

On the terminal market, 10 tonnes of Sri Lankan pepper were traded at ₹400 a kg, while 10 tonnes of pepper from the plains went for ₹410 a kg, they said.

Spot prices fell further by ₹200 a quintal to ₹40,300 (ungarbled) and ₹42,300 (garbled).

Thus, the prices have fallen by ₹4,900 a quintal in three weeks after moving up by ₹6,800 a quintal between December 6 and 30 following the fixing of MIP of ₹500/kg.

Export prices were at $6,825 a tonne c&f for Europe and $7,075 for the US.
