Malabar gold (MG-1) pepper is claimed to have become the cheaper source available at present in the world market following the rise in the pepper prices in Vietnam. Tight supply position in Vietnam is reported to have pushed up the prices there and that in turn would result in many of the buyers turning towards India, trade sources told BusinessLine . They said physical availability of MG-1 is tight in Kerala and hence exporters were buying Karnataka pepper for processing and mixing with Kerala pepper, they said. Some dealers operating from Kerala’s rural areas were said to be offering MG-1 at ₹10 a kg below the terminal market prices.
