Jeera price increased on fresh export demand and strong domestic buying. According to traders, projection of weak production in Turkey and Syria supported the price rise.
On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera April contracts gained ₹65 at ₹ 9,860 a quintal, with an open interest of 1,608 lots. NCDEX May jeera improved by ₹70 to ₹9,995, with an open interest of 8,787 lots. In Unjha, a key spot market in Gujarat, jeera edged up by ₹29.55 to ₹10,359.1 a quintal and arrivals surged to 70,000 bags. Market sources said that domestic jeera production is likely to be 55-60 lakh bags this year against the previous estimate of 45-48 lakh bags. This is mainly due to higher production in Gujarat.
