Cotton price were unchanged as demand was limited on Friday. Prices of raw cotton or kapas decreased marginally on weak demand from ginners. According to traders, prices were steady as the international market ruled strong. Gujarat Sankar-6 best quality cotton quoted at ₹40,000 for a candy of 356 kg, B grade cotton ruled at ₹37,000-38,000 and inferior quality cotton at ₹33,000-35,000. About 5,000 bales arrived in Gujarat and 8,000 bales arrived across the country. Kapas declined by ₹8-10 to ₹850-1,025 for a maund of 20 kg in Saurashtra. Gin delivery kapas traded at ₹1,005-1,020. Cottonseed decreased ₹10 to ₹415-440 and cotton oil at ₹590-592 per 10 kg. According to Gujarat Agriculture Department data, cotton coverage is higher this year at 29.30 lakh hectares against last year’s 26.63 lakh hectares.
