Castor futures went up on buying interest on the back of expected industrial demand. However, spot prices were down marginally on lower buying. On the Rajkot Commodity Exchange (RCX), castor March contract was up ₹25 to ₹4,425 a quintal.
RCX spot castor lost ₹12.50 to ₹4,287.50. About 18,000-20,000 bags of castorseed arrived in Gujarat and prices declined by ₹5 to ₹870-880 for a maund of 20 kg. In Saurashtra, about 1,600-1,700 bags arrived and went for ₹815-825. Castor oil lost ₹10 to ₹875/10 kg.
According to traders, there were some enquiries for industrial demand in spot. Moreover, short supply also influenced the futures price. However, good weather conditions in producing States had restricted price to go up as present atmosphere may be helpful to increase the yield.
