Pepper prices witnessed a mixed trend on Tuesday with March series on the National Multi Commodity Exchange moving up, while the spot market continued to rule steady. On the regional exchange IPSTA, active contracts declined by ₹100 a quintal each.
Strong domestic demand continued and whatever material was available and offered was picked up by the inter-State dealers, market sources told Business Line.
On the terminal market, 25 tonnes of semi-processed pepper from Malapuram and Kottayam districts of Kerala were traded at ₹522-523 a kg. High range pepper was being traded at ₹520-527 while Rajkumari (Idukki) pepper at ₹530 a kg.
On the NMCE, March and April contracts moved up by ₹213 and ₹150 respectively to ₹53,800 and ₹53,600 a quintal. On the IPSTA, all the active contracts fell by ₹100 to ₹53,600 and ₹53,760 a quintal.
Spot prices remained steady at ₹51,500 (ungarbled) and ₹53,500 (garbled) a quintal on matching demand and supply. Export prices increased to $9,025 c&f Europe and $9,275 a tonne c&f US.
