Sugar prices ruled mixed on the Vashi wholesale spot market on Thursday as the fair variety was sold at ₹4-5 a quintal lower, while the fine quality got ₹5-8 premium on routine demand and supply.
Millers kept tender offer open indicating lower-than-expected buying response from stockists. Naka trade took place at ₹30-50 discounted rates due to higher reselling of old fair variety stocks. Mill tender rates were down by ₹10-20 on continuous lack of upcountry demand. Arrivals were 60-62 truckloads and local dispatches improved to 58-60 loads. On Wednesday, about 19-20 mills offered tenders and sold 58,000-60,000 bags at ₹2,900-80 (₹2,900-3,000) for S-grade and ₹3,040-3,120 (₹3,040-3,140) for M-grade.
Bombay Sugar Merchants Association’s spot rates: S-grade ₹3,072-3,195 (₹3,072-3,196) and M-grade ₹3,202-3,340 (₹3,192-3,342). Naka delivery rates: S-grade ₹2,990-3,050 (₹2,990-3,080) and M-grade ₹3,120- 3,200 (₹3,130-3,250).
