Spot turmeric prices improved by ₹200 a quintal at Erode markets on Wednesday due to upcountry demand. “Only medium quality turmeric arrived for sale, but those traders who have received some upcountry demand purchased 60 per cent of the stocks,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,249-6,606 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,109-5,879.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,319-6,849; the root variety ₹5,299-6,177. Of the total arrival of 766 bags, 129 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,659-6,738 and the root variety ₹5,369-6,270. Of the 952 bags put up on sale, 915 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,599-6,759; the root variety ₹5,296-6,249. All the 591 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,691-6,699; the root turmeric ₹5,169-5,004. All the 104 bags were traded.
