New turmeric found takers in Erode markets. “On Thursday, 9,000 bags of turmeric arrived for sale including 4,000 bags of the new variety. Buyers procured 3,900 bags of new turmeric and only 1,500 bags of old variety. Salem turmeric arrival decreased to 40 bags and quoted at ₹9,200 a quintal. If traders receive good upcountry order, they will certainly quote higher price and purchase more. They are waiting for fresh demand from North India,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the price of the finger turmeric was up ₹400 at ₹8,569 a quintal. The price of the finger turmeric too was up ₹100 in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric went for ₹6,077- 8,495 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,711-7,799.
New turmeric: The finger variety traded at ₹6,677-8,766; the root variety ₹5,896-7,806. Of the 2,261 bags that arrived, 650 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,499-8,569; the root turmeric ₹7,089-8,039. Of the arrival of 1,921 bags on offer , 687 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,899-8,589; the root variety ₹7,119-7,933. All the 579 bags found takers.
