Prices of new crop turmeric increased in Erode markets due to heavy demand.
“On Friday, 10,000 bags of turmeric arrived for sale, including 2,500 bags of new turmeric. Because of heavy arrivals, prices of medium quality old turmeric decreased. Many buyers quoted higher price and procured the new turmeric. All the 2,500 bags of new turmeric were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The new turmeric price has touched ₹9,085 – up ₹300 a quintal than previous day’s price. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,391-8,631 a quintal and the root variety ₹6,100-8,514.
New turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹7,140-9,085 and the root variety ₹7,060-8,185. Of the total arrival of 2,996 bags, 1,140 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹7,599-8,888; the root turmeric ₹7,385-8,293. Of the 1,506 bags on sale, 1,302 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,409-8,889 and the root variety ₹7,169-8,323. Of the arrival of 1,175 bags, 1,095 bags found takers.
