Pepper prices, both spot and futures, ruled steady on matching demand and supply. Activities were limited as not much demand from upcountry was forthcoming. All markets there are reportedly on holiday mood. Demand from North India is expected after October 28, market sources told BusinessLine. On the spot, 12.5 tonnes of pepper arrived and that were all traded. Of this, 7.5 tonnes of pepper belonged to the High Ranges and the remaining was from Pathanamthitta district. High Range pepper was sold at ₹685 a kg while 550 gl pepper was traded at ₹680-685. Pepper from the plains was sold at ₹670-675. On the spot, prices remained unchanged at ₹67,000 (ungarbled) and ₹70,000 (garbled) a tonne. Export prices were at $11,900 a tonne for Europe and $12,150 for the US.
