Downtrend continued in pepper on Thursday on selling pressure from Karnataka dealers amid slack demand. Upcountry buyers are waiting for the prices to fall further after the release of 6,000 tonnes following the court order.
At the same time, lower grade material from Karnataka was being offered at ₹630 a kg delivered anywhere in India. On the spot, 13 tonnes of pepper arrived and traded at ₹670. Spot prices fell by ₹500 to ₹66,500 (ungarbled) and ₹69,500 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices also declined to $11,800 a tonne cf for Europe and $20,050 for the US.
