Pepper prices continued to fall on Tuesday on bearish sentiments spread by expert analysts coupled with “a double crop” this season. Consequently, many in the upcountry markets have not only stayed away from the markets but also have cancelled their orders by citing flimsy grounds, market sources told Business Line . “Cheap imported materials and low bulk density pepper from Karnataka are being sold at lower rates”, they said. On the spot, 17 tonnes of pepper arrived and were traded at an average price of ₹643 a kg. Spot prices fell by ₹700 a quintal to ₹64,300 (ungarbled) and ₹67,300 (garbled). Export prices dropped to $11,500 a tonne cf for Europe and $11,750 for the US.
