Pepper prices showed a firmer trend on good buying support amid supply squeeze. All the upcountry buyers were active as also the exporters and investors, trade sources said. Slowdown in Karnataka selling, of late, at a time when the domestic demand has picked up has also aided the price rise, market sources told BusinessLine. On the terminal market, 58 tonnes of pepper arrived and of this 32 tonnes were from Kodagu region of Karnataka, were traded at prices ranging between ₹520 and ₹570 a kg. Rajkumari was being offered at ₹575. Spot prices moved up by ₹500 a quintal to ₹54,500 (ungarbled) and ₹57,500 (garbled). On the IPSTA platform, all the active contracts (April, May and June) went up by ₹500 to ₹59,518, ₹58,525 and ₹58,515. Export prices for April shipments were at $9,750 a tonne c&f for Europe and $9,950 for the US.
