Pepper prices on Tuesday ruled steady as demand matched supply. Selling pressure weakened in Kerala while it was good in the Kodagu region of Karnataka. Rain in some parts of the high ranges are attributed to the decline in arrivals from there, the traders claimed. Karnataka was offering at ₹600-605 a kg, market sources told BusinessLine . Domestic demand is almost met from there while the exporters were aggressively covering from Karnataka and Kerala, they said. On the terminal market, 42 tonnes of pepper arrived and of this 32 were from Kodagu. Availability of Indian pepper from Vietnam and Dubai cheaper is hampering the exports from India, export sources told Business Line . They said MG 1 is offered from Singapore at $10,100 a tonne. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹60,000 (ungarbled) and ₹63,000 (garbled) a quintal. Active contracts on the IPSTA also stayed steady. Export prices slipped following weakening of the rupee to $10,200 a tonne c&f Europe and $10,450 for the US.
