Spot pepper prices moved up on Wednesday on tight availability amid good buying interest. Only two tonnes of pepper were traded on Wednesday. All the north Indian pipelines are reportedly empty and the winter months till March are the peak demand period. The monthly requirements are somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 tonnes a month as the grinding industry is active during this period to avoid grinding loss, market sources told BusinessLine. Spot prices moved up further by ₹500 a quintal to ₹60,000 (ungarbled) and ₹63,000 (garbled). On the IPSTA platform, all the active contracts remained unchanged. Export prices are at $10,750 a tonne for February shipment.
