Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets due to poor upcountry demand.
“For the past 10-15 days, the traders have not received any fresh upcountry demand for the turmeric. So they are buying limited stock at a decreased price. On Monday, 4,800 bags of medium variety turmeric arrived for sale and the buyers procured 2,300 bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The finger turmeric was down ₹100-200 a quintal, while the root variety by ₹100.At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,216-7,879 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,014-7,529. Of the arrival of 919 bags, 290 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,299-7,985 and the root variety ₹6,289-7,639. Of the 1,020 bags on offer, 989 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,800-7,989; the root variety ₹6,569-7,649. Of the 1,270 bags put up for sale, 1,230 were sold.
