Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets declined on Friday due to slack buying and arrivals of inferior quality turmeric. “The price of the turmeric is decreasing for want of upcountry demand. And also the turmeric farmers expecting the price of the yellow spice may increase soon, keeping quality stock with them brought very limited medium and poor quality turmeric for sale,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said that though the price of the turmeric is a tad cheaper in Warangal, Sangli and Nizamabad, buyers did not place any fresh orders. The sale in Erode and other markets are very low. The price of hybrid turmeric decreased by ₹200 and that of the other varieties by ₹100 a quintal.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,279-6,427 a quintal; the the root variety ₹4,067-6,034.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric fetched ₹5,612-6,816; the root variety ₹5,365-6,329. Of the 821 bags that arrived, 98 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,629-6,689 and the root variety ₹5,314-6,239. Of the 858 bags offered, 749 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marking Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹5,604-6,539; the root variety ₹5,319-6,250. All the 947 bags found .
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,800-6,529; the root variety ₹5,649-6,129. Of the 264 bags put up for sale, 251 were sold.
