Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets decreased on Monday due to arrival of poor quality produce.
“Already, turmeric prices are heading south as traders have not received any upcountry demand. Only poor quality arrived for sale on Monday and just 60 per cent of the offering was sold at a lower price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The hybrid finger variety lost ₹500 a quintal and the hybrid root variety ₹400. Similarly, the local finger variety decreased by ₹150 and the root variety ₹400.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,009-6,069 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,699-5,574.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,386-6,306; the root variety ₹5,160-5,734. Of the 214 bags on sale, 68 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,309-6,061 and the root variety ₹4,996-5,515. All the 133 bags found takers.At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,289-6,159; the root variety ₹4,929-5,569. Of the 154 bags put up for sale, 119 were traded.
