Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets on Friday due to poor quality arrivals.“Though the traders received some fresh orders from North India they were unable to buy more due to arrival of medium and poor quality turmeric. They quoted decreased price and purchased fifty per cent of the arrival. Traders procured all the 400 and odd bags of hybrid turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The hybrid finger turmeric lost ₹400 and the hybrid root turmeric ₹200 a quintal. The local varieties were down ₹150-200.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric went for ₹3,800-6,466 a quintal and the root variety ₹3,519-5,836.

Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,459-6,890; the root variety ₹5,117-6,077. Of the arrival of 1,199 bags, 319 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,589-6,585 and the root variety ₹5,389-6,220. Of the 1,018 bags on offer, 901 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,495-6,568; the root variety ₹5,389-6,010. All the 583 bags found takers.
