Spot turmeric prices in Erode markets decreased by ₹300 a quintal due to arrival of inferior quality produce.
“Prices of new turmeric decreased by ₹100 a quintal due to the arrival of medium and poor quality turmeric for sale. Only 10-15 bags of Salem Turmeric arrived and all were sold at previous day’s price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said 5,800 bags arrived for sale, but only 45 per cent was sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹5,696-8,329 a quintal and the root variety ₹5,229-7,655.
New turmeric: The finger variety went for ₹6,806-8,498; the root variety ₹6,189-7,749. Of the total arrival of 2,232 bags, 670 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,169-8,139 and the root turmeric ₹6,493-7,689. Of the 1,049 bags that arrived, 706 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,199-8,299 and the root variety ₹6,599-7,699. Of the 822 bags on sale, 696 were traded.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,010-8,517; the root variety ₹6,819-7,769. All the 132 bags found takers.
