Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets due to quality arrival of new crop. “We are getting 70-100 bags of new turmeric a day and the price is higher than that of old crop. On Friday, 3,500 bags arrived and 2,080 were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. The price of the finger turmeric was up ₹100 a quintal and the root variety by ₹120. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the new finger turmeric went for ₹8,811-9,600 a quintal; the root variety ₹8,011-8,650. The old finger variety fetched ₹9,811-9,609 and the root variety ₹7,177-9,215. Of the arrival of 2,037 bags, 1,200 were traded.
