Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets on the arrival of medium quality produce. “On Monday, finger turmeric lost ₹200-1,000 a quintal. Only 150 bags of new Number Eight variety arrived for sale and all of them were sold. The price of the new turmeric too decreased by ₹200. This is due to poor upcountry demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. On Monday, 1,500 bags arrived for sale and only 45-50 per cent were sold.
Regarding the price, the finger turmeric was down ₹1,000 a quintal in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society and the root variety by ₹800.
