Pepper prices fell on Monday on selling pressure from Wayanad and reports of early release of 6,400 tonnes of pepper held in warehouses for over 18 months following the implementation of the court orders, market sources told Business Line . They said Karnataka low bulk density pepper is entering Wayanad at ₹620-630 a kg and that is mixed with local material and then sold at ₹650-660.

On the spot, 23 tonnes of pepper arrived mainly from Wayanad and went for ₹650-660 a kg. Spot prices fell by ₹1,000 a quintal to ₹65,000 (ungarbled) and ₹68,000 (garbled). Export prices were at $11,700 a tonne (c&f) Europe and $11,950 for the US.
