Hybrid and local varieties turmeric improved on Friday on speculative buying by traders, who expect prices to rise further. “The price of spot turmeric price was at ₹7,000 a quintal. ,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. Of the 7,000 bags that arrived, 4,980 were sold. The minimum price rose to ₹6,588 a quintal. The hybrid variety increased by ₹400 to ₹8,049 and the local varieties gained ₹300.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,589-7,449 a quintal, the root variety at ₹3,547-7,000. Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,100-8,049, the root variety at ₹6,000-7,169. Of the 1852 bags on offer, 877 bags were sold. At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,488-7,587, the root variety at ₹6,335-7,197. Of the 2,239 bags put up for sale, 2,097 were traded. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,588-7,799, the root variety at ₹6,448-7,217. All the 1,211 bags on sale were picked up. At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,169-7,780. The root turmeric was sold at ₹5,669-7,019. All the 296 bags put up for sale were traded.
