Spot pepper moved up marginally on good demand amid tight availability while there were no activities on the national and regional exchanges.
There was no selling pressure. Only 10 tonnes of pepper were traded on Wednesday at ₹509-525 a kg. Reprocessed pepper was being sold at ₹520. There were said to be buyers. The sellers are expecting higher prices because of the upsurge in domestic demand, market sources told Business Line.
The financial year ending coupled with impractical quality norms were pointed out as the reason for the continued absence of trading activities on the national and regional exchanges.
Spot prices moved up marginally by ₹100 to ₹51,000 (ungarbled) and ₹53,000 (garbled) a quintal.
Export prices also moved up to $9,000-50 c&f Europe and $9,250-9,300 a tonne c&f US.
