The price of hybrid finger turmeric fell sharply on Monday.
“The buyers quoted decreased price because of poor quality. On Monday, all the 390 bags of hybrid turmeric that arrived were sold,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said that the total arrival fell from 3,200 to 2,002. The traders quoted lower prices for the local varieties. The hybrid finger variety turmeric price was fell by ₹350 a quintal and the root variety by ₹150. The local variety turmeric dropped by ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,099-6,319 a quintal, root variety at ₹3,955-6,134.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric fetched ₹5,877-6,711 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,619-6,290. Of the total arrival of 998 bags, 231 bags were sold.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,434-6,169 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,315-6,365. Of the 951 bags that arrived, 568 bags were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,399-6,199 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,396-6,169. Out of the 799 bags on offer, 699 bags were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,939-6,369 a quintal, root variety at ₹4,590-6,139. All the 218 bags kept for sale were sold.
