Sugar prices were steady on Wednesday on routine demand amid ample supply. On the Vashi market, barring M-grade which rose by ₹10 a quintal, prices remained stable. Naka level activities were thin. Mill tender rates were unchanged. Enough supply from producers kept morale steady.

Sources said that this week overall activities remained routine on back of need-based demand amid continuous supply from producers. Lack of demand from upcountry since long forced Maharashtra’s mills to offload their produce in State level markets.

Prices in other producing States are ruling at par with Maharashtra diverting neighbouring States buying to nearby areas. Vashi market also carries enough inventories keeping stockists away from increasing new stocks. Freight rates were steady. Arrivals were 61-62 truck loads and local dispatches were 58-60 truck loads. On Tuesday evening, about 14-15 mills offered tenders and sold 54,000-55,000 bags at ₹2,920-3,000 (₹2,920-3,000) for S-grade and ₹3,050-3,150 (₹3,050-3,150) for M-grade.

Bombay Sugar Merchants Association’s spot rates: S-grade ₹3,076-3,195 (₹3,076-3,195) and M-grade ₹3,210-3,346 (₹3,200-3,346). Naka delivery rates: S-grade ₹3,020-3,090 (₹3,020-3,090) and M-grade ₹3,140-3,270 (₹3,140-3,270).
