The pepper traders on Wednesday urged the authorities to release the pepper in the warehouses to meet the demand instead of importing.
They claimed that the availability in all the origins was tight and it was evident from the firmer market in Sri Lanka which had quoted $10,100-200 a tonne. In the domestic market there was neither any arrival nor offtake.
Reprocessed pepper was being offered at ₹730 a kg but there were no takers. Buyers were quoting ₹730-735 for the high range pepper. Karnataka was offering low bulk density pepper at ₹730.
Spot prices were steady at ₹72,000 a quintal (ungarbled) and ₹74,500 (garbled) . Export prices remained unchanged at $12,750 (c&f) for the Europe and $13,000 a tonne (c&f) for the US.
