On Friday, a record 15,000 bags of turmeric arrived for sale in Erode markets.

“For the first time this year, 15,000 bags arrived and 70 per cent of the arrived stocks were sold. This may be due to the receipt of upcountry demand by some exporters and traders. Further quality turmeric also arrived and traders purchased good number of bags at a higher price,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the yellow spice was up for the third consecutive day. The hybrid variety touched a high of ₹9,809 a quintal, while the local turmeric was up ₹300.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,111-8,560 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,060-7,660.

Salem Hybrid. The finger turmeric fetched ₹6,559-9,809 and the root variety ₹6,495-8,560. Of the 1,829 bags that arrived, 55 per cent stocks was sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,137-8,687 and the root variety ₹6,987-8,063. Of the 1,904 bags on sale, 1,669 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,933-8,859; the root variety ₹6,749-8,159. Of the 2,486 bags offered, 2,426 were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,201-8,951; the root variety ₹6,168-8,069. All the 386 bags found takers.
