Arrivals of new turmeric increased on Tuesday and prices increased with quality. “The new turmeric from Chamrajnagar and also from some villages near Mysore increased to 500 bags on Tuesday. Quality turmeric arrived locally for sale and buyers quoted up to ₹400 a quintal higher and purchased 1,610 bags of the 3,000 that arrived,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said all bulk buyers are expecting new orders from North India and the price is at a par with Nizamabad. So, traders from North India prefer Erode turmeric.
On Monday, poor quality hybrid finger and root turmeric arrived for sale, so traders quoted a lower price.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,834-8,021 a quintal, the root variety at ₹5,634-7,527.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,494-₹8,569, the root variety for ₹6,334-7,669. New Mysore variety: The finger variety was sold at ₹6,491-8099, root variety ₹6,196-7,525. Of the 870 bags that arrived, 282 were sold. At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7099-8269, the root turmeric at ₹6,009 to ₹6,899. Of the 283 bags on offer, 192 bags were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,609-8,179, the root variety ₹6,339-7,514. Of the 399 bags put up for sale, 389 were picked up.
