Spot turmeric prices increased in Erode markets on Friday following the arrival of quality produce.
“Despite arrival of 9,500 bags, traders procured 55 per cent stock by quoting higher price. Of the total arrival over 40 per cent stocks were of good quality,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric merchants Association.
Traders purchased all the 1,500 bags of new turmeric. In the Regulated Market Committee and Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, best quality turmeric was sold at ₹8,300 and ₹8,500 a quintal respectively. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,134-8,580 a quintal; the root variety ₹6,309-8,119.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety went for ₹6,599-8,329; the root variety ₹6,177-8,149. Of the 2,331 bags on sale, 970 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹7,169-8,323 and the root turmeric at ₹7,019-8,139. Of the arrival of 1,649 bags, 1,406 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,179-8,504 and the root variety ₹7,096-8,293. Of the 1,746 bags on sale, 1,528 were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹6,270-8,569 and the root variety ₹6,069-8,268. All the 367 bags found takers . Our Correspondent
