Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets on Monday on higher arrivals.

“Arrival of turmeric increased to 8,500 bags as farmers expected better prices. But prices dropped by ₹200 a quintal, despite good quality turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said traders have received good number of upcountry orders and purchased 55 per cent of the arrivals.

Buyers were keen on buying all the 400 bags of Salem Turmeric. The Salem root variety was sold at a maximum price of ₹9,179 due to arrival of fine variety turmeric.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,765-8,764 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,299-8,014.

Salem Turmeric: The finger variety traded at ₹7,618-9,802 and the root variety ₹7,294-9,179. Of the arrival of 1,665 bags, 870 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,299-8,899; the root variety ₹6,899-7,812. Of the 1,069 bags offered, 804 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,499-8,599 and the root variety ₹7,169-7,660. Of the 1,559 bags on sale, 1,158 were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,499-8,569 and the root variety ₹6,967-7,659. All the 303 bags found takers.
