Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets due to the arrival of poor and medium quality turmeric. “Many traders purchased 65 per cent of the arrived 4,300 bags to fulfil their local traders,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. Only old turmeric is arriving for sale in all the markets.The new turmeric will arrive for sale in mid-February and within a few days the Mysore Number 8 vareity is expected to hit the sales centres. Regarding the price, all the varieties decreased by ₹100 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,600-8,885 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,436-7,981. Of the arrival of 1,961 bags, 1,190 were traded.
