Prices of the hybrid root turmeric increased at spot markets of Erode on Tuesday. “The hybrid root turmeric was up ₹500 a quintal due to arrival of fine variety root turmeric. The buyers also purchased local root turmeric to fulfil their committed orders to merchants in North India,”said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He said that on Tuesday 3,500 bags arrived for sale and the buyers procured 1,910 bags for their local and upcountry orders. Quality turmeric fetched higher price .
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,101-6,515 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,033-5,881.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,600-7,068; the root variety ₹5,399-6,538. Of the total arrival of 707 bags, only 101 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,587-6,515 and the root variety ₹5,393-6,289. Of the 713 bags that arrived, 634 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,569-6,540; the root variety ₹5,389-6,282. All the 561 bags found takers.
