The sale of turmeric in Erode markets increased ahead of Diwali. On Wednesday, 4,300 bags arrived for sale. The traders purchased 65-70 per cent of the stock to fulfil their local and some upcountry orders. The price of the turmeric remains static for the past one week. The finger variety increased by ₹200 a quintal and that of the root variety decreased by ₹100. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,412-8,744 a quintal and the root variety at ₹7,089-7,811. Of the arrival of 1,295 bags, 710 were sold.
