Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets due to upcountry demand. “We are getting some upcountry demand for the turmeric for the past couple of days. The price of the turmeric was increased by ₹200 a quintal due to receipt of little demand. On Friday also, the traders quoted higher price and procured good number of turmeric bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Of the 6,000 bags arrived for sale, 65 per cent stocks were sold for increased price. Regarding the price, the turmeric price touched ₹10,000 a quintal. The finger turmeric was up ₹200 and the root variety ₹150. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,619-10,112 a quintal; the root variety ₹6,580-9,609. Of the arrival of 2,400 bags, 1,501 were sold.
