A volume of 17.28 lakh kg is being offered for Sale No: 48 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is some 37,000 kg less than last week’s offer. Of this, a volume of 11.86 lakh kg belongs to the leaf grades and 5.42 lakh kg belongs to the dust grades. With substantial volumes remaining unsold in previous auctions, as much as 2.18 lakh kg of such teas are being re-offered this week. Last week, average prices crashed to ₹61.95 a kg – among the lowest for any week in the last three years. Pakistan’s purchase continued to be low. Among CTC teas, Vigneshwar Estate topped with ₹186 a kg. Chamraj topped the orthodox market at ₹226. There was good demand for brighter liquoring teas from upcountry buyers.
