A volume of 6.22 lakh kg has been catalogued for the Dust tea auction of Sale No:98 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Friday.

This together with 11.06 lakh kg Leaf grade takes the total volume offered to 17.28 lakh kg.

This is as much as 2.07 lakh kg less than the offer of last week.

Of this, 11.06 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 6.22 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 15.69 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.59 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 93,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 10.13 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 66,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.56 lakh kg, CTC.

The Broken Orange Pekoe Small grade of Darmona Estate, auctioned by J Thomas and Co P Ltd created a new price-record last week when Belmount Tea and Produce Co bought it for ₹302 a kg. Two Leaf grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹249 and ₹245. In the CTC Dust market, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped at ₹238 a kg.
