Supported by strong winter demand and slack availability, prices of mustard and its oil are on the boil in mandis across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. On Thursday, mustard oil prices in Indore mandis rose to ₹718 (₹705), while it ruled at ₹725 in Morena (up ₹15) and ₹710 in Neemuch (up ₹10) respectively. Reports of decline in sowing area and improved winter demand have prompted stockists to restrict supply of mustard seeds in mandis, leading to a steep rise in prices in the past two weeks. Slack arrival and strong demand in mustard oil also lifted mustard seeds prices on Thursday sharply to ₹4,200-4,500 a quintal (up ₹300), while raida rose to ₹3,500-3,700 (up ₹400). Plant deliveries of mustard seeds for Jaipur line also traded higher at ₹4,290-95 a quintal. Arrival of mustard seeds in the country on Thursday declined to 95,000 bags.
