The rupee was trading strong at 67.52 in the evening session due to sustained selling of the US currency by exporters and banks and a strong domestic equity market.
Forex dealers said apart from fresh inflows from foreign funds, dollar’s weakness against some other currencies overseas provided added momentum to the rupee.
The rupee firmed up by 13 paise to 67.55 against the dollar in early trade. It hovered in a range of 67.71 and 67.49 before quoting at 67.52, up 16 paise at 4.10 pm local time.
Yesterday, the domestic unit had gained 27 paise to close at 67.68 on dollar selling by lenders and exporters amid a firm equity market.
Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE index Sensex ended higher by 259.33 points or 0.97 per cent at 26,999.72.
