The rupee was trading weak at 67.31 in the evening session due to strengthening of dollar against other currencies overseas.

Forex dealers said fresh demand for the US currency from importers also put pressure on the rupee but a strong domestic equity market capped the losses.

The rupee opened weak by 10 paise at 67.18 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today.

It hovered in a range of 67.33 and 67.17 before quoting at 67.31, down 23 paise at 4.35 pm local time.

On Friday, the rupee had gained 9 paise to close at a fresh one-week high of 67.08 against the US dollar amid sustained selling of the American currency by banks and exporters.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index closed up 292.10 points or 1.05 per cent after reaching its highest since August 11, 2015.
