Tracking a firm trend in precious metals overseas, silver prices soared Rs 437 to Rs 42,783 per kg at the futures trade today as speculators widened their bets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July shot up by Rs 437 or 1.03 per cent to Rs 42,783 per kg in a business turnover of 1,142 lots.

The white metal for delivery in September was trading higher by Rs 435 or 1.01 per cent to Rs 43,625 per kg in 321 lots.

Market analysts said speculative position created by participants, driven by a firm global trend as the likelihood of an interest rate increase in the US faded following Britain’s vote to quit the European Union, boosted the domestic sentiment.

Meanwhile, silver climbed 1.44 per cent to $18 an ounce in Singapore.
